The
picture you see above, well, that is me. I think I smoothed out a few
blemishes on my skin, but no other photoshop was done to the picture.
My full name is Ashleigh Langhein. I was born on 9 September 1985 at the Fontier Hospital in Queenstown, South Africa. I am the daughter of Andrew Ian Langhein (1952 - 2010) and Janet Louise Peter Langhein (1953 - present). My
ancestor, Karsten Langhein (as on his tombstone) came to South Africa
from Germany in 1858 and he was involved in the Baptist Church here in
South Africa. I'll be posting an account of my lineage at a later
stage.
Education:
I grew up attending the Queenstown Baptist Church. I went to primary school at Balmoral Girls Primary School in Queenstown and High School at Queenstown Girl's High School. I finished Grade 12 in 2003.
In 2004 I moved to Bloemfontein, South Africa to study Information Technology at the University of the Free State. I have been living in Bloemfontein ever since, and currently own a small house here now.
Work:
In 2011 I started working at a local business called Ouch! a touch of technology.
But I make a point not to talk anything business related on this blog
since I like to focus on my life outside of work here, also a lot of the
work I do I cannot talk about since it is Intelectual propery of the
business.
Christianity:
As
far as my faith is concerned, I don't remember a time when I didn't
believe in God. I was brought up knowing God and I was baptised in
2009. I cannot explain how I am convinced God exists, but I just see
all the amazing things he has done in my life and I know for sure it
couldn't be anybody other than him. At the moment I am attending the
student church Kovsie Kerk at the University of the Free State on a
regular basis.
Talents:
I
feel I have a number of talents and skill that are very broad. I am
talented in logical problem solving, programming, cooking, baking,
sewing, cross-stitch and writing. I'm starting my hand at vegetable
gardening now, so I'll let you know if I discover a talent for that too.
Hobbies:
Besides
for my talents I have a number of hobbies that I wouldn't say I am
skilled in. I enjoy gardening, reading, management computer games,
knitting and crafting.
Personality:
This
is one thing that is difficult for me to describe about myself. I feel
I am wise, but not always socially intelligent. Sometimes I say the
wrong thing at the wrong time to the wrong person. I have difficulty
keeping conversations going, and regularly want to give advice when a
person needs empathy.
I
care about other people and don't want to cause anybody hurt in any
way, and the most difficult thing for me is to cause somebody emotional
pain, but I will do it if there is no other way.
I
am an introvert and find that my internal batteries get recharged when I
am alone, and drained when I am around people. I enjoy hosting dinners
at my house and inviting friends over, but after 4-5 hours I am usually
exhausted from all the social interaction and have great difficulty
maintaining a cheerful disposition. I love people, and I love being
around people, but not for periods longer than a couple of hours.
I never get bored. I can always find something for myself to do. This may be an advantage of having grown up as an only child.
I
am also a child at heart, and I don't ever plan on growing out of my
child-like side (because being an adult is boring). I love playing with
Lego. I love "playing house". I love Disney movies. I love games.
Most of the time I only get through my work because in my mind I turn it
into a game. I cannot take life seriously, because then I get
depressed.
And that is me, in a nutshell. I hope you enjoyed reading this about me page!
